Once Upon a Time, There was me by ~Delusional-Weirdo:iconDelusional-Weirdo:

Once upon a time,
There was me,
I'm still here of course,
But I'm talking when I was three,

Well, perhaps older,
Around seven or eight,
Or even when I was younger,
Just a small little babe,

Well, either or,
The story begins,
With a small happy child,
With many siblings,

She was loved,
She was hugged,
She was scolded for wrongs,
And for rights she grew strong,

Well, she made some great friends,
And she lived blissfully near them,
She was unaware of bad in the world,
They were more like nightmares of old,
They were distant, and touched the less bold,

Now the age of nine was reached,
And suddenly a nightmare touched her,
Her best friend was in a far away land,
She cried fearing her friend had left forever.

No, no, it doesn't end there,
Same year she discovered love's true,
But with her boldness and care,
Heartbreak came too,

No, No, stay still all of you,
Still this continues,

Around the age of ten,
She found past mistakes,
Trying to haunt her then,
Friends were suddenly fakes,

Still, she carried on through life,
Slowly her eyes would be opening,
She would find many things of strife,
And she'd find it hard to start coping,

And now she turned the age of thirteen,
And now her life was no longer supreme,
She only endured because of her family,
Whose loving embrace kept things in unity,

Now she could cope better,
Now her best friend was back,
Now she could talk to others better,
Now her bliss was coming back,

No, we're still not done yet,
Her life was not so short I'd bet,

Same age, she met a new friend,
Who appeared one day from nowhere,
The chair beside her that had always been empty,
Suddenly had a strange girl there,

Confused and beguiled,
Our girl asked, "Hey, what's your name?"
And the girl responded without smile,
Perhaps a bit confused by our girl's way,

Soon after our girl would learn of abusing,
Parents who hate their children,
Who think their suffering amusing,
Friends who hate their friends,
Only hanging around each other for using,

Her new friend taught her of these,
Since this new friend had lived with it,
But our girl not only felt displeased,
She felt sorry for her friend,
And decided to help it end,

Their friendship grew stronger,
And our girl loved to help her,
If the friend needed help soon,
That's what our girl would do,

A true friend our girl remained,
But through this she began to realize,
She had no right to complain,
Her family was kind and friends divine,

She met many who were less fortunate,
So she would help whoever she met,
Through sharing her warmth,
Or lending some strength,

She'd give what she could donate,
Since misfortune is bad luck, not fate.

Now we reach the modern day,
Our girl is grown and more mature,
Her home is still somewhat okay,
Her friends are now much more secure,

Her family is still so warm,
Though some of them have left,
She can easily pass through life's storms,
With love, they are bereft,

Still she gives all she can,
Even if she's not repaid,
Since happiness is her plan,
Reward is not her way,

Wait, wait, it's just about over,
I just have one last thing to cover,

Now I don't mean to glorify myself,
Though it seems that's what I've done,
I wanted to discuss our life,
Since all life can be collected to one,

This was about my self-realization,
About how I grew from a child into today's me,
Since I often know in civilization,
Often times not everyone is able to be carefree,

I have realized that I have no reason to boast,
This is how life should be,
I have realized that because I have more than most,
I should give for free,
I have realized that because of my life's experience,
I should aid others too,
I have found that I enjoy happiness most, hence,
I should help others find it too.

You see, I never see myself as fortunate,
As I see others as unfortunate,
When they land in a home of drug addicts,
Or due to bad money, have to sleep in attics,
I don't want to laugh and say, "Glad that's not me,"
Rather than, "This is horrible. I can't let this be."

I don't know how many I've tried to help,
Or if I've helped at all,
But at least I have always felt,
That I'm doing something overall,

So as I finish my soliloquy,
Or monologue if it's actually seen,
I give one last sentiment to read,
That I hope your heart will keep,

To those who are named "fortunate"
I want to urge you just a little bit,

Don't laze around ignoring pain,
Give a coat to someone in the rain,
Send some food to those too poor,
Those people couldn't thank you more,
Donate money to friends and homeless,
This in turn buys you happiness,

If you don't have things to give,
Give them the will to continue to live,
Love, kindness, courtesy, smile,
Perhaps an ear that'll listen for a while,
Material or no, we all have something,
So if you see a person who's crying,
Whether the tears are wet or invisible,
Go and help them feel less fragile,

That is my advice to you,
Now I must switch to group two,

To those who are named "unfortunate"
Don't give up and call it fate,

You must at least try to resist,
Think of ways to get through this,
If nothing comes then raise your voice,
  Call for help from anyplace,
If ears are deaf then raise your hand,
Motion them over and also stand,
If eyes are blind then reach out to touch,
Reach far and wide, there's no "too much"

If they're human and sane,
Those told will want to aid you,
They won't want you to live the same,
You'll find someone who'll be able,

But you must know one thing and never forget,
If you give up that's the blackest of sins,
Even if all you have met,
Don't shun you and hate your very name,
If you give up and give up for good,
And never try to get understood,
You will have failed as a person,
You will fall deeper into submersion,

I say this as a warning,
Not an insult,
Though for those who for you are trying,
It is an insult,

Those helping you will feel the insult,
Giving up is like a punch to the face,
It'll hurt,
And it bleeds,
Understand that please,

So never give up,
Never roll over,
Even if time's almost out,
It's still not over,

And here I finish my remarks,
Though it probably barely left its mark,
My life could've went down the drain,
But I didn't give up and managed to sustain,

So take example of this,
Even if you've already lost your bliss,
You can take it back,
The future and life is not always black.

Author's Comments

I was in a brooding/thoughtful mood. :3 so i thought, hey, give a little insight into myself and express a desired point of NOT GIVING UP to those ppl who think they have it bad. ^^ Besides, i thought a few people might like to read some literature from me. ^^

finally finished - and its true! people love to let the "unfortunate" remain as their stupid label is! But this doesnt change their predicament! One of my friends is mentall ill, and we;ve been together for about 7 yrs now -but no one else will befriend her so far! I hate it how people treat her just because she is herself - she's an awesome person, not a label T.T Good poem, just needs to be shorter!!

beautifully written, strong meaning and offers insight into just about anybody, i feel that this could motivate just about anybody, whoever you are to become a better person. This is a belief that i have always tried to live by, i am lucky to be fortunate and i feel the exact same about giving to others who are less fortunate, thank you for sharing this, this has motivated me deeply.

I agree with everyone else. It is way to long. I would have to tried to shorten it. It also seems redundant.
